Outreach

The UNC-Duke-Bennett Millennium Village Project is a student-led initiative that aims to help end global poverty, in the belief that extreme poverty is the greatest moral dilemma of our time. Reaching out to the local community to raise awareness of the problem of extreme poverty on a global scale is an integral part of NCMVP’s vision.

Through the Carolina Navigators program, provided by the UNC Center for Global Initiatives, NCMVP members have been trained to give interactive classroom presentations to K-12 students in the local community. The presentations are aimed to help educate grade school students about global poverty and Millennium Village Project, and to motivate students to become involved in working to eradicate this critical issue in today’s world.

Part of ending poverty is the fundamental task of raising awareness about the issue, so in our presentation we explore the meaning and characteristics of extreme poverty. We also discuss the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and explain the Millennium Village Project development model in detail. Most importantly, we give suggestions on what YOU can do to help and get involved in the fight to end global poverty.
