Internship

The North Carolina Millennium Village Project (NCMVP) combines the efforts of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, and Bennett College to end extreme poverty in target Millennium Villages identified by the Earth Institute at Columbia. NCMVP has partnered with the village of Marenyo, Kenya to facilitate community-driven initiatives for sustainable development. This will be accomplished through coordination of comprehensive financial and technical support with the Earth Institute’s Millennium Villages Project, Columbia University, the NGO Millennium Promise, and the United Nations Millennium Development Programme. To ensure that our partnership with Marenyo is responsible, sustainable, and effective we have established the following main goals for the NCMVP:

  1. Accountability and Transparency
  2. Increased Awareness
  3. Continued Support
  4. Academic Engagement

The internship position plays a critical role in achieving all four of these goals.

This internship aims to help students provide accountability in the Millennium Villages as the communities work to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, maintain a strong relationship between the village and the universities, and acquire first-hand experience in sustainable development projects.
