Class

Last year, a group of NCMVP members independently designed the syllabus for a course in the international studies department at UNC. The current student-designed course, being offered in fall 2008, is entitled INTS 390: International Development in Practice.

The course explores current practices in international development, largely through a focus on carefully selected case studies to provide real-life background. The curriculum emphasizes the best practices, modes of intervention, implementation, and evaluation of development projects. The course also aims to provide a solid introduction to development theory, approaches to “sustainable development” and the economic and sociopolitical underpinnings of international development initiatives, as well as critically exploring the role of university students in global development work.
