On Friday, Nov. 10, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, a leading international economist and renowned humanitarian and advocate for the world's most impoverished, visited UNC and Duke to give a lecture and speak with the student body. Dr. Sachs spoke on behalf of the Millennium Village Project, a project that has shaped a village model through which impoverished countries can achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. The effort to sponsor a Millennium Village, by students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, and Bennett College represents the first ever student-led coalition to finance a village. He spoke at UNC’s Memorial hall in support of this effort, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. At 12:15 p.m. he addressed student groups in the Pit. He then spoke at Duke University’s Page Hall from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
