3rd Annual “Dollar-A-Day,” part of “Poverty Action Week”
As part of Poverty Action Week, Millennium Village Project will be sponsoring UNC’s 3rd Annual Dollar-A-Day. Pledge to join hundreds of students as we attempt to live off one dollar for the day
7pm Wednesday, March 24th- 7pm Thursday, March 25th
1$ lunch (think a slice of pizza or a bagel) in the Pit 11:30am-1:30pm, 3/25
After the 24 hours, join us for dinner at CMI’s monthly Kiva Dinner at 7pm (Location TBA) and wear your shirt to have dinner for a reduced price of $3. Stick around for a talk from a Kiva Fellow on her experiences with poverty and the action she’s taken.
This is an event in which students from many student organizations come together to recognize our commitment surrounding our generation’s biggest challenge; the eradication of extreme poverty. On this day, students pledge to spend 24 hours attempting to experience, and in doing so, more fully understand, the statistic that is a daily reality for much of the world.

Wednesday [Nov 12, 2008]: MVP in the Pit and the Green Microfinance Workshop
Ensure Environmental Sustainability
The Carolina Microfinance Initiative is VERY excited to be hosting Kathleen Robbins for a lecture and workshop! Kathleen is the director of clean energy at the Green Microfinance, an organization that harnesses the power of renewable energy to microfinance. Their work with microfinance institutions assists them in providing their clients with clean, renewable energy technologies – solar, wind, hydro, and biofuel – which enhance their physical and economic well-being while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation. As oil prices skyrocket, this allows microfinance clients from the Bottom of the Pyramid to thrive, not just survive, in the world’s emerging green, carbon-sensitive economy. You can go to greenmicrofiance.org for more information.
Kathleen Robbins will be presenting about the opportunity provided by microfinance and the biofuels revolution for small growers in developing countries with specific examples from Haiti. She will also be touching on Green Microfinance’s vision and goals for the future. For more on Green Microfinance, visit their website at greenmicrofinance.org.
We will also be spreading environmental awareness in the Pit, so stop by!
